Driver sentenced over 'crash for cash' scam
Manchester Evening News / 7th April 2010
A driver has been sentenced for his part in a ‘crash for cash’ scam.

Abdullah Ahmed, 24, admitted committing conspiracy to commit fraud when he appeared at Manchester Crown Court and was sentenced to two years in prison, with 12 months suspended. Ahmed, of Lower Monton Road, Eccles, was driving a Lexus on October 24, 2007, when he was in a collision with a couple’s Nissan Micra on a roundabout near the Trafford Centre. He claimed the Micra driver was at fault and, when the couple became suspicious, went on to falsely claim they had racially abused him. Who else has been locked up in April? Sentences and photo gallery Ahmed claimed the Lexus was in storage for 111 days afterwards, but the car was filmed 13 times during that time by automatic number-plate recognition cameras. Three other men have been ordered to do community service after appearing in court earlier. Jehangir Iqbal, 29, of Skerton Road, Stretford, Mohammed Aziz Miah, 34, of Chadwick Road, Eccles, and Omran Hussain, 29, of Mather Avenue, Eccles, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit fraud. Mohammed Patel, 24, of Nottingham Drive, Bolton, who deliberately caused collisions while others went on to make fraudulent insurance claims has been jailed for four and a half years.
