
Insurance Fraudster sentenced to 9 months Post Magazine 29th May 2008 / 2nd June 2008 On 14 May the Judge at Liverpool Crown Court sentenced David Cairns, aged 44, to 9 months imprisonment for insurance fraud after he was paid £9,200 in compensation for falsely alleging he had broken his ankle in a pothole in the road.
On 14 May the Judge at Liverpool Crown Court sentenced David Cairns, aged 44, to 9 months imprisonment for insurance fraud after he was paid £9,200 in compensation for allegedly breaking his ankle in a pothole in the road. Wigan Council, assisted by Forbes Solicitors were able to disprove his claim when it was revealed the injury had been caused playing football. Mr Cairns nephew, Anthony Purves, aged 32, was also sentenced to 6 months for perjury in the same case. The severity of the sentence was described by the judge not only as a punishment but also to deter others.
